Coronavirus (COVID-19)

General Overview:

Safety is the top priority for the World Waterpark Association and its member facilities. Since January 2020, WWA has been monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak to aid members in staying informed on this issue. As this pandemic has spread on a global scale, we've all seen firsthand the impact to our individual way of life, as well as to the travel and tourism industry. Our industry has navigated a myriad of changes and we will continue to do so as the pandemic is shifted by mass vaccination availability and lowering case numbers.

To aid members in putting together 2021 reopening plans for their individual facilities, the WWA has made available a revised Aquatic Facility & Waterpark Reopening Considerations document, which has been recently reviewed to ensure that the guidance offered is relevant and in line with lessons learned from those operators who did reopen in 2020.

As this situation is still fluid and changing on a regular basis, WWA encourages all members to educate themselves about COVID-19 and how to mitigate your risks using the resources here. What follows are a collection of resources that we feel are accurate and trustworthy. One recent item of note that U.S. members should be familiar with is the emergency temporary testing standard (ETS) released by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Effective January 26th, OSHA has withdrawn this standard which obligated private employers with 100 or more employees to require COVID-19 vaccination or weekly testing and masking for their unvaccinated employees. Although the ETS has been withdrawn and will not go into effect, members are encouraged to remain vigilant to ensure that their policies related to workplace safety and the vaccination of its employees are compliant with local and state orders and laws. Information about ETS can be found under the Resources for U.S. Businesses and Operational Resources links below.

As always, if you need to speak to a WWA staff member, please call the WWA main line at +1-913-599-0300. Staff continues to working remotely, but we are available via email or phone to provide you with assistance as needed.
