WHAT IS YOUR EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE?
I graduated from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, majoring in a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. I also graduated from Sichuan Television University majoring in Tourism Management. I have 15 years experiences of general planning, operation, management and marketing of waterparks and resorts. From 2002 to 2017, I have been involved in the development and operation of multiple waterparks in China, including 4 Happy Magic Water Parks, Beijing Water Cube Water Park and China Dead Sea Resort.

WHAT CERTIFICATION OR LICENSING DO YOU HAVE?
I am a committee member for the National Standardization Technology Committee on the Ropeway and Amusement Device (NSRAD).

WHAT HONORS, AWARDS OR SPECIAL RECOGNITION HAVE YOU ACHIEVED?
I was a main drafter of China National standard GB/T 18168-2017 (Specifications of water amusement equipment Category) and a main drafter of China National standard GB/T 30220-2013 (Amusement device safety use management).

WHAT MADE YOU GO INTO THIS FIELD?
In 2002, my company invested in a comprehensive tourist resort called the China Dead Sea Resort in Sichuan province. I was responsible for planning and operating the hotel and the indoor and outdoor waterpark, and that got me involved in the waterpark industry.

WHAT ASPECT OF THE WATERPARK INDUSTRY DO YOU LIKE BEST?
It is the smiling face of the visitors. When the visitors are satisfied with their experience and service in the waterpark, their happy and relaxed expression is the best reward for the manager.

WHO HAS MOST INSPIRED YOU IN YOUR CAREER?
One is my teachers, Mr. Peng Jun, who inspired me to get out of my daily work and look at my career from a global and higher philosophical perspective. Another person that inspired me the most is Mr. George Millay, who founded the new form of the very waterpark industry. I admire his courage and creativity very much.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST CHALLENGE IN YOUR WATERPARK CAREER?
Preparing for a waterpark to open in a short time. It was basically an impossible task. But in the end, with the efforts of the team, we made the opening on time, although there were many imperfect places.

HOW DO YOU KEEP FOCUSED AND MOTIVATED?
I like the words Nietzsche said, “We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once.” The life of every day is a gift, and I am consistently studying how to keep the focus of work and continue to advance.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN WORKING IN THE WATERPARK INDUSTRY?
Start from the basics; try to learn each job position. Meanwhile, always give more and keep a proactive working habit.

WHAT BOOKS OR PUBLICATIONS DO YOU RELY ON MOST FOR INSPIRATION OR MOTIVATION?
2,500 years ago, China’s most famous thinker and philosopher Lao Tzu wrote a book on the philosophy of water culture, Tao Te Ching. I particularly like the eighth chapter of this classic, in which it says: “The highest good is like water, as it benefits all things while asking nothing in return.” And this describes the best way of running a waterpark—visitors will recognize you only when you provide the best to them. World Waterpark Magazine also gives me a lot of inspiration as well.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?
I enjoy when an idea turns into reality and visitors are amazed.

WHAT CAREER OR BUSINESS WOULD YOU CONSIDER IF YOU WERE STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN?
I would create a new industry that is not currently available, such as a new industry that combines recreation and culture.

HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INVOLVED WITH THE WWA?
In 2010, I was the contact of Beijing Water Cube Waterpark applying to join the WWA, which is how I became involved with the WWA for the first time. I now serve on the WWA’s Board of Directors.

WHAT IS SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOU THAT FEW KNOW OR WOULD GUESS?
On behalf of the Chinese Waterpark Association and with the support of WWA, my company hosted the first China Water Park Investor Forum and Senior Executive Workshop in December 2017, and established the first WWA knowledge hub in China.
